Marbles on Portage, Opening July 31

Save the Date!

A new public artwork, Marbles on Portage by Erica Swendrowski, will soon animate Portage Avenue. It was created as a collaboration between the Winnipeg Arts Council Public Art Program and the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.

Join us on July 31 at 12 noon at the Air Canada Window Park (Portage Avenue between Carlton Street and Hargrave Street) to celebrate these unique and beautiful works of art that will be brightening this major thoroughfare.

About Marbles on Portage
The artist sought to create a unique, playful atmosphere within Winnipeg’s historic downtown by installing 20 larger-than-life marble sculptures in planters and in the median on Portage Avenue. The 3’ and 4’6” marbles captivate the imagination of young and old alike and reveal how familiar everyday items can make life extraordinary.  While staying true to the unique design of glass marbles, the sculptures incorporate soft glowing light as well as living plants.  The diverse elements will create an atmosphere of imaginative possibilities day and night throughout all four seasons.
