A Public Celebration for emptyful and Sentinel of Truth, August 15

A Public Celebration for Public Art!

In honour of two new, major public art works opening at the newly renovated Millennium Library Park, the Winnipeg Arts Council, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and the Winnipeg Public Library invite all of Winnipeg to come to the party of the Millennium (Library Park)!

WHERE: Millennium Library Park, 251 Donald Street

WHEN: Wednesday, August 15, 5:30pm – 11:00pm

WHO: All of Winnipeg! Hosted by the Winnipeg Arts Council, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, and the Winnipeg Public Library

WHAT: Meet the artists of these two remarkable new works. Come enjoy a wine garden, refreshments, tours of the newly renovated park and entertainment from John K. Samson and Veda Hille, the Keith Price Trio, Trio Bembe DJ Mama Cutsworth, and a "brief" but special performance by Shakespeare in the Ruins. The evening will be hosted by writer & broadcaster Bill Richardson.

WHY: With the opening of the Millennium Library Park, two public artworks have also opened. These artworks, created through the Winnipeg Arts Council, were conceived of and planned as part of the Millennium Library Park from the very beginning of the renovation. emptyful is a new work of art by Vancouver artist Bill Pechet created as the major legacy project of the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada designation. Sentinel of Truth by Winnipeg artist Darren Stebeleski represents libraries as protectors of truth and ideas that stand as pillars of our society.
